What is a Lutheran?

Lutherans get their name from Martin Luther, a German priest who was excommunicated from the Roman Catholic Church in the early 1500s. Luther's writing and teaching sparked the Protestant Reformation.
The teaching of Luther and the reformers can be summarized in three short phrases:

Grace Alone: God loves the people of the world, even though we are sinful, rebel against Him, and do not deserve His love.

Scripture Alone: The Bible is God's inerrant (without error) Word, in which He reveals His Law and His Gospel of salvation in Jesus Christ.

Faith Alone: Jesus' suffering and death is the substitute for all people of all time. He purchased and won forgiveness and eternal life for all. Those who hear this Good News and believe it will have the eternal life that it offers.

Trinity Lutheran Church is part of the Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod.

God's Word

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.”

- Romans 1:16-17

All Christian education at Trinity Lutheran Church complies with the Lutheran Confessions.

Drawn from God’s Word, the Lutheran Confessions are a true and binding exposition of Holy Scripture and serve as authoritative texts for all pastors, congregations and other rostered church workers of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod.

Practice

Holy Communion

  • Holy Scripture and the Lutheran Confessions teach that in Holy Communion we receive the true body and blood of Jesus Christ with the bread and wine for the forgiveness of sins. This sacred meal is not merely symbolic; it is a real and present gift of grace given to strengthen faith and bring comfort to believers.
  • Because Holy Communion is such a meaningful and holy gift, we ask all visitors to speak with the pastor beforehand. This allows us to ensure that everyone comes to the Lord's Table with a shared understanding of what we believe, teach, and confess. We want your participation to be spiritually beneficial, respectful, and in unity with our confession of faith.

Holy Baptism

  • Holy Scripture and the Lutheran Confessions call Baptism a second birth-a divine and miraculous work of God in which the Holy Spirit creates saving faith and begins a brand-new life in Christ. This new life continues to grow and reaches its perfection on the day of resurrection.
  • Baptism is not merely plain water but water joined with God's command and His powerful Word. Through Baptism, God promises forgiveness, salvation, and adoption into His family. By preparing to bring your child to be baptized, you are taking one of the most important steps in raising them within the Christian faith and nurturing their relationship with their Savior.
  • The church community also plays an important role in supporting the baptized child or adult, helping them grow through worship, prayer, teaching, and fellowship. Parents, sponsors, and the congregation together make a commitment to guide the baptized in a lifelong walk with Christ.

Holy Absolution

  • Private confession and absolution can be arranged by appointment through the church office. This is a deeply personal opportunity for spiritual care, allowing individuals to confess their sins and receive God's full and unconditional forgiveness spoken directly to them through the pastor.
  • Holy Absolution offers comfort, peace, and assurance of God's mercy. It is a profound reminder that no sin is too great for God's grace and that Christ invites all people to come to Him with their burdens so He may give them rest.
